What families say about Kidsfirst

Generations of South Island families have passed through the gates of Kidsfirst’s not-for-profit kindys for more than 110 years.

Today, our Canterbury, West Coast and Central Otago kindergartens welcome many grandparents who were once kindy kids themselves, along with families looking for all the benefits kindergarten brings.

Whānau love that children get to learn in our Big Backyards and indoor spaces rich with resources. They make the most of opportunities to meet others within their neighbourhood and make new friends.

In a fast-moving and tech-driven world, they are grateful for their tamariki having the opportunity to learn at their own pace, in their own time. You’ll see the same themes throughout the reviews and testimonials our families leave.

But there’s one area of feedback that shines above the rest: the difference that our fully trained, registered teachers make, and how nurturing and welcoming our kindergartens are.

“We were involved with Kidsfirst Kindergartens since my first born was two and sent my second there as well. The place quickly became a second home to my children. The teachers are very warm, friendly and professional. I love the way they engage with the children (be it during reading, play or even in the kitchen), how they cuddle them when they are upset and the overall way they deal with and look after kids. I was always at ease knowing that my children were in good hands when they were at kindy. With the support of teachers and their connection with the community we all managed to make a few lifelong friends while attending this kindergarten. With their bicultural engagement, both my children learned to appreciate te reo Māori and have grown a hunger for other cultures as well as languages.”

“What a wonderful place for kids to grow and learn. The teachers are so friendly, kind and caring, my daughter has learned so much and she loves going there. It’s nice and very clean and so much learning goes on.”

“Enrolling my son at Kidsfirst was the best decision I’ve made for him. We moved from another centre and from the moment we walked in, we were made to feel so welcome. Communication has been excellent, both in person and through the online platform – we always know what’s happening day to day. The kindy has a great large outdoor space and beautiful and engaging indoor spaces. The teachers go above and beyond, embracing the strengths of families and celebrating the diverse community. They do it all – sing with the kids, bake, use lots of te reo, actively teach them about managing emotions: It’s the kindy I wish all kids could have!”

“The most supportive, warm and nurturing environment I ever could have wished for my children to spend their kindergarten days in. The team make this place magical and I feel so lucky to have been a part of this awesome community for the past three years. I have learnt so much from these knowledgeable and educated kaiako.”

“My children had an absolute blast attending Kidsfirst. We couldn’t thank them enough for taking such great care of our kids and helping them learn and grow! The team are so great and willing to go that extra mile to get to know children, finding out what makes them happy and allowing them to be themselves. I’d 100% recommend anyone to go and check it out and enrol!”

“My daughter loved this preschool. She has autism, and [they] really went out of their way to help my daughter, and also made the preschool very sensory, which she loved. The outside is amazing with big sandpits, slides, little paths, and bike tracks – they also have amazing staff that really do make it feel like you’re a part of a family.”

“Can’t rate Kidsfirst highly enough. The teachers are amazing, they are nurturing and set up an engaging environment for children also taking care of the families. The outdoor environment is so nice and big and there’s always great new resources.”

“We chose Kidsfirst because of the large outdoor spaces, with great playgrounds, sandpits, vegetable gardens and lots of grass areas which offer endless opportunities for children to play and explore. We quickly learned that the teachers are very experienced and truly committed to delivering high-quality care and education. They work hard to build strong relationships with tamariki and whanau, making everyone feel welcome, and creating a strong sense of belonging.”

“I am very happy and confident about my daughter’s progress at kindy. It is a very nice and well-planned kindy, with a great environment and teaching concepts. She loves the kindy a lot, and always tells us the directions there when we get into the car, as it is the happiest place for her after home. Although she is only two and a half years old, she is very eager to learn and experience the novel activities at the kindy. We are very thankful for the opportunities given to my daughter at kindy. My heartfelt gratitude goes out to you for having a quality early childcare system.”
