Being Kindy Safe means paying attention to the fundamentals, which is why strong leadership and management, rigorous systems, processes and policies underpin everything we do at Kidsfirst. These are the bedrock that our kindergartens are built on and we take them very seriously.
Whether it’s a pandemic wave, day-to-day kindergarten life, an excursion or an event, our kaiako will have the safety of your tamariki top of mind – and that provides the sort of peace of mind that is needed for growth, learning, connections and fun to happen.
No matter where you are on your kindergarten journey – just starting out or a kindy parent who has been with us a while – don’t hesitate to talk with kaiako about any health and safety-related concerns. And remember, our kindergartens are safe spaces for whānau, too.
Kidsfirst’s Big Backyards are the perfect space for tamariki to play, explore and learn, no matter what is going on in the world outside. Our kaiako love them, too – and make sure tamariki get plenty of opportunities to get out and have fun all year round.
Kindy age tamariki are full of questions, and some of them can be tricky to answer. Our kaiako help tamariki make sense of the world around them and have some great wisdom to share about how they explain difficult scenarios in pragmatic and age appropriate ways.
Kindergarten has been a mainstay of early childhood education for more than 100 years, and no matter what’s going on out there, we are always there for tamariki and whānau. Sometimes that means moving the connection and learning online, but so long as it’s safe for us to be together face-to-face, we’re there! Our Kindy Safe measures are there to reduce the risks for everybody.
They say it takes a village to raise a child, and with a world as complex as it is, that’s never been truer. Our not-for-profit kindergartens have been connecting whānau, tamariki and communities through good times and bad for more than a century now, and we are proud to be an integral part of the neighbourhoods we serve.

It’s a scary and uncertain world sometimes, but being part of the Kidsfirst Whānau means you’re never alone. No two families are the same, which is why we keep our group sizes small and our teaching teams work hard to get to know everybody’s individual needs.
