Whanaungatanga Shines at Disco
Kidsfirst Templeton’s annual disco brought whānau and kaiako together for a night of pure whakamanamana. Tamariki shared their favourite songs with kaiako Manjit, who took on DJ duties and made sure every request made it onto the playlist. There was something for everyone including a sausage sizzle, glow toys, face painting, bubbles, and coloured lights, making for a magical evening. It’s events like these that show the whanaungatanga and kotahitanga at the heart of kindy communities. Ka pai, Kidsfirst Templeton, what a fantastic way to come together and celebrate 🎵💖

Tamariki share cultural pride
At Kidsfirst’s 60-plus kindergartens, every day is a celebration of all the worlds of kindergarten. Tamariki expand their horizons, learn that our differences make us special, and to connect and learn in that uniquely kindy way. Kidsfirst Edmonds Smith Street’s recent Cultural Day is a great example of how whanaungatanga and kotahitanga sit at the heart of these events. Our thanks to all the Kidsfirst whānau who so passionately share the traditions, clothing and kai of their homelands right across the network 🌏❤️😊

Celebrating our kindy whānau
Each term brings special days and weeks to celebrate and Term 2 was no exception. The UN’s International Day of Families was a cause for celebration at Kidsfirst Phillipstown, where a cultural dress-up day recognised the vibrant diversity of the kindy community. Ngā tamariki proudly wore traditional clothing representing their homelands and learned more about the worlds of their kindergarten through music, kai, creativity and stories. Everybody is welcome at Kidsfirst, and it’s events like this that make kindy such a special place to learn and grow together 🌏❤️
Safety lessons with smiles
The people in our neighbourhood play such an important role in strengthening connections that tamariki have to local communities. At Kidsfirst Linwood, emergency services personnel like Elysse and Hone the Puppy from Hato Hone St John are regular visitors. Tamariki get a glimpse into the important work ambulance officers do and learn life-saving information like how to call 111 in an emergency. Community Constable Spike Crowther is another familiar face – on his last visit he joined Linwood’s morning waiata and talked about his role in keeping the Linwood community safe. Tamariki explored the equipment on his vest, tried it on (it was very heavy!), and practised what to say to a police officer if they ever got lost. Flashing lights and lots of smiles were part of a warm kindy haere mai at the end of this very special visit 🚔😊🚑
