Kidsfirst’s 2026 ERO Report

The Education Review Office (ERO) has found Kidsfirst has strong systems, leadership and teaching support in place across our network, with both our organisational conditions and learning conditions rated Embedded.

This means ERO found Kidsfirst has the right foundations in place for quality education and care for tamariki. In the kindergartens ERO visited, kaiako were seen providing inclusive learning environments, responding well to children’s interests and needs, and building strong partnerships with parents and whānau.

What ERO highlighted:

  • Strong strategic planning and leadership.
  • Good use of resources to support children’s learning, wellbeing and participation.
  • Inclusive teaching practice and thoughtfully designed learning environments.
  • Ongoing work to strengthen evaluation so Kidsfirst can better measure what is working best, for which children, across the whole network.

ERO has indicated the next evaluation is likely in 2 years. You can read the full report here.

Please note that due to ERO changes there are no longer ERO reports for every individual ECE service in New Zealand.
